In a Mitsubishi 4G63T, a cranking compression reading of between around 130–170psi is considered acceptable, but more important than the numbers themselves is consistency — a 20-per-cent difference or less . You want to see all the cylinders EVEN or within a reasonable range of difference. Not 25% leak on 1, and 12% on the rest. Same with the comp test, results should be pretty .
in today's episode we cover how to properly do a compression test on your second generation DSM with a 4G63T engine. This was more scheduled maintenance before we install a bigger. Just wondering what compression test results you guys get in relation to your compression ratio of your engine. I know there are variables but just wanted a survey to see . Consistency is the key. If they all come in at 100-110, then the motor is probably worth messing with. I'd put some oil in the crankcase, squirt some WD-40 in each cylinder and . I'd say it's low but it's a cold motor. Their all in range of each other which is good. I was taught to do a compression test on a warm motor with the throttle open. I'd assume .
This is a 16-valve SOHC engine with compression ratio 10:1. You can find one of these in Mitsubishi Galant E33, Space Wagon/Chariot/Nimbus. 4G632 - a little bit more powerful 137 . The compression should be about 130 psi (4,000' MSL) or 150 psi (sea level) for engines with a 10:1 compression ratio, like a Top 80. For other engines go to their respective . Lancer Evolution VI compression Test with the 4G63 Engine cold and then Hot. I show the tips & tricks I use when I work from my home workshop while I try to .
Hello, I saw on my Haynes book that the standard cylinder compression pressure (at 250 to 400 rpm) should be at 164 psi per cylinder. I was wondering if a engine has 150 psi per cylinder is the engine in good condition? Can someone explain what cylinder compression means? how will it affect the performance. thanks CharlesThe 4G63 engine is a member of the Mitsubishi Sirius 4G6 family firstly introduced in 1980. It is the four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline naturally aspirated engine (the turbocharged version is the 4G63T engine). . 130 lb-ft (176 Nm) . Today's compression test resulted in the following. Warm Engine, Dry test, throttle and Air valve in closed position #1 - 120 #2 - 110 #3 - 110 #4 - 110 I am happy to see the consistency but expected to see higher numbers. . Numbers were the same with a cold engine but it took longer to build. Valves were recently adjusted to .015 cold and . Did the warm compression test earlier on the front bank: Cylinder 1: 184 Cylinder 3: 180 Cylinder 5: 179 Will post the remaining bank later. As you can see so far testing warm vs cold can variate greatly and really doesn't show a pattern (refer to post#8 for cold test #s).
The compression results will vary depending on a lot of things. Just to give an example on my 350 with 9:1 compression and a 270/278 219/227 @ 50 515/530 lift hydraulic roller cam with a 106/112 lsa with out opening the carburetor up to wide open throttle and just turning the engine over I get about 160 to 170 on all 8 cylinders as an example.

Dr Honda Well-Known . I wanted to run a compression test just for the information not because anything was obviously wrong. I ran the test cold without warming the engine to operating temperature. Test #1 taking readings on the 3rd cycle: cylinder 1 = 100psi, 2 = 90, 3 = 100, 4 = 95, 5 = 100, 6 = 100. Test #2 was cranking until the max pressure was achieved.
Was wondering what the normal range for PSI is on a compression test. Only had time to do one cylinder before I leave for work. It was my problem cylinder(the one missing) was reading 130 PSI but wasn't sure what it's supposed to read.
Went ahead and compression tested my motor today. I have no idea if numbers are good or bad I have researched and eveything leads to 180-200 which is not at all what numbers I came out with ran test 2 times. I had a difference in . I did a cold compression test on the bike the other day and received these numbers: 1: 150 psi 2: 140 psi 3: 120 psi 4: 130 psi Valve clearances are all in spec and engine is timed correctly. Compression on an engine tells a very important story. Anyway, I checked my 026 Pro and I get compression readings as follows: 1st pull - 70psi 2nd pull - 110 psi 3rd pull - 125 psi This was checked with the motor warm, throttle wide open and choke open. I made each pull of the rope very fast and strong with a full length pull of the rope. It is good that you are within a couple psi between cylinders but those specs are on the low side. Like Noyzee said, it would be smart for you to test it. Hold the throttle wide open and pull until it stops building pressure (generally 5-6 pulls). See what you end up with. I believe a 500ss is around 130-140psi new depending on the gauge. Good . You can start the engine once you add oil. The cover is not related to low compression reading. Compression should not vary by more than 10-15% between any two cylinders. If the engine has been sitting a while the 130 may come back up after a few thermal cycles; the rings take a set when sitting for long time and a few thermal cycles sometimes .
FE & FT Big Block V8 (332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428) - 390 Compression Test - I did a compression test on my 390 this weekend. I was wondering what everyone thinks. Here is Bill Cudney's compression test procedure. The following is my psi compression test on my 1964 327 cui engine: No oil leaks, engine runs fine, idles fine, plugs are clean and dry, cooling system runs a little hot (205 degrees), idles at about 180-185 degrees. Should I have any concerns? cyl 8: 165 cyl 7: 150 cyl 6: 160 cyl 5: 155 cyl 4: 140 cyl 3: 155 cyl 2: 155 cyl 1: 150
2000 7.4 liter 454, L29 based engine. I recently did a compression test, both dry and wet, and all cylinders were about 135-145 except cylinder #1 which reads 160 psi. I have my records from doing a compression test on the same motor about 10 years ago, and the same cylinder had the same high reading.

Before putting in new plugs I changed the oil and put in a fresh new battery to do a compression test. Cranked it cold, all cylinders check at about 130-140 psi except # 6. #6 is at 30 psi. Put in the plugs and start her to let the engine warm up and see what numbers I get (assuming she was just dry of oil after sitting for a month).
My 57 has white smoke coming out of tail pipe. It’s a 6 cylinder 235 engine, checked the compression of each cylinder. Here are the results: 1st 2nd 1) 108 psi 111 psi 2) 55 psi 59 psi 3) 125 psi 130 psi 4) 125 psi 128 psi 5) 125 psi 130 psi 6) 118 psi 122 psi If all cylinders are equal, IMHO it could be an issue with possibly how many times they cranked the motor during the compression test, battery, starter, you name it. I get a 20 psi swing just by running the test hot vs. cold. The elevation is having a small affect. I think your good. Typically you will get a big differential between cylinders. Working on a fresh rebuilt 350, and I did a compression test, all cylinders read 140 psi. I am thinking this is a little low, compression ratio calculator numbers are as follows: . Compression came in at 130 to 145 on all cylinders with old cam most can in at about 140 to 150 (see first post) I am thinking the psi drop is because of intake .
